Automatic Tank Dewatering
Over time, storage tanks containing hydrocarbon feedstocks, will accumulate water.
Manual control of the water draw-off can result in HC in the discharge. This means less product for sale and increase in the cost of waste water treatment. In-tank interface detectors give the best results for eliminating the discharge of hydrocarbons. In-line hydrocarbon/water monitors avoids tank penetration and eliminates the bottom sediment build-up and the free water in the tank. Learn More / See Animation
Desalter Control
Agar’s System 3, which is a combination of Interface Detectors (ID), provides extensive information and control capabilities far beyond simple level control.
It is a series of probes that represent the first and only interface control system that provides continuous 4 to 20 mA output signals that are proportional to the % water concentrations at their individual locations inside the desalter. Among the many benefits of this control system is the fact that routine oil undercarry is either significantly reduced or completely eliminated, providing both environmental and economical benefits. Foam Detection & Control
The Agar Foam Detector, operating on the principle of energy absorption, provides early detection as foam begins to form. The information is used to control and optimize the defoamer injection rate resulting in a reduction of chemical costs, minimal liquid entrainment, protection of downstream equipment, and reduced process upsets. Slop Oil
Many manufacturing processes produce hydrocarbon waste with varying amounts of water. The waste water is collected in slop tanks which are then treated to break hydrocarbon and water emulsions to the free phase hydrocarbon and water. In the treatment of waste oil, the adjustable sensitivity of the Agar ID-201 Interface Detector is used to eliminate the dumping of free-phase hydrocarbons with the effluent water, monitor the emulsion build-up, and actively control the outlet oil quality. Amine Contactors
Contamination of the amine systems results in operational and environmental challenges for the operator. Foam Detector optimizes the anti-foam chemical injection rate reducing the overall chemical costs down. The Agar ID-201 and Agar OW-201 are used in conjunction to draw off hydrocarbon to protect downstream equipment and ensure that lean amine with minimal hydrocarbon is sent out to the contactors for maximum absorption efficiency. Alkylation Acid Control
Alkylation is an important refining process in which light olefins are converted into higher value gasoline blending components. Agar technology can be applied in the alkylation process in two fundamental ways – interface detection and control in acid/alkylate separation processes (ID-200 Series Interface Detectors) and in-line measurement of acid/alkylate mixtures (OW-200 Series Oil/Water Monitors). The capability to detect and prevent product/acid cross contamination is the key to Agar’s success at interface control. Learn More
Caustic Wash Systems
The Agar ID-201 does what knock-out drums, packed vessels, sand filters, or other conventional coalescers cannot do. It controls the caustic interface level and therefore the hydrocarbon interface level for either the settler or caustic disulfide separator which prevents under carry in both applications. Learn More
Sour Water Stripper Applications
The Agar ID-201 Interface Detector is installed in the Knock-out Drum upstream of the Sour Water Stripper to prevent sour water from being discharged when hydrocarbon is discharged. Learn More
